Dance

Dance is a natural method for learning and a basic form of cultural expression. It is a powerful ally for developing many of the attributes of a growing child. Dance helps children mature physically, emotionally, socially, and cognitively.

Dance involves a greater range of motion, coordination, strength, stamina,  and endurance than most other physical activities. This is accomplished through movement patterns that teach coordination and kinesthetic memory. Dancing utilizes the entire body and is an excellent form of exercise for total body fitness. Young children are naturally active, but dance offers an avenue to expand movement possibilities and skills.

The program will focus on movement with music, connecting with rhythms, working together as a group and exploring dance as a medium of self expression.
Dance freely, expressing immediately everything that flows within you, in the present moment!

A Peep into the Workshop

Summer Workshop 16′

Dancing, they say, is dreaming with your eyes open. This summer, children were completely engrossed in the new techniques and activities taught by Pragati didi. They eagerly looked forward to learning something new each day. Let’s take a peek into the activities this summer!

Dance

Our little friends love to dance! In the first week our young ones were busy exploring their body movements through dance. Not only did they put their hearts into the activity, but even managed to learn up a combination of basic steps – In-out, open-close, roll roll!
Exploring free movement, and basic exercises, they also happily learnt certain hand movements like blade hands and jazz hands.
While dancing, our facilitator, Pragati, taught them a little poem to help them retain and remember steps. They learnt up both the song and dance in no time.

Dance

Dance is fun! In the second week children went one step ahead to explore choreography and steps.
As a first step to help children know the animals of their choice, they drew on paper the animal they loved. Following this, they started learning basic steps to a song they would later be performing to at the showcase.
These little ones also moved ahead with their knowledge of techniques as they learnt to “point” and “flex” this week.

Dance

In the third week children had been busy refining and learning steps for their showcase. Along with exercises already taught they gradually also began building a connect with the theme of the showcase.
A fun drawing class helped them get a clearer picture of what they thought about their theme and how they connect individually with it.

Showcase 2016

It’s not just dancing,

But learning with some fun and moving;

It’s not just teaching,

But exploring what your heart and mind are telling;

It’s not a showcase for impressing,

But expressing what you are experiencing and feeling.

Dance is a magical experience! Pick up a tune, make it your own, add some fun and simply move to the beats. A perfect recipe that comes intrinsically to children. They enjoyed themselves so much through the dance workshop, little did they realize the beauty created in the process.

These young ones indeed had our facilitator, Pragati didi surprised by their remarkable excitement and enthusiasm. Amidst the fun and games, children were not only able to pick up dance techniques but also went on to create some of their own steps for the showcase performance.

Their sweet performance surely had us all tapping our feet and filled the air with joy and excitement!
